Buses
Highly underrated! The bus quality has improved rapidly but there area few routes that are excellent for tourists. They run north south and save you some time trying to book taxis and waiting for grab cars. The north south buses that are easiest to access and quickest are as follows: #6, #14, #45. There is also the bus terminal on Ham Nghi street right downtown which has been recently renovated. There are other routes that take you north or south as well. Use Google Maps directions function to get the correct bus.
They accept credit cards that can be tapped on a machine next to the bus driver. They also accept cash. The bus attendant will help out and a few also speak basic English. To make them stop, put your hand up as if you are flagging down a taxi or else they will continue without stopping.
Grab
Slighly higher priced but easy to use and payments can be done via credit card on the app or cash.
Bee
Offers both motorbikes and cars although service is a bit slower since there are less bikes and cars on the app. It is cheaper than Grab.
Xanh SM
A new taxi app that offers electric cars from national brand Vinfast, the fleet is quite large and affordable, especially downtown. You can save up 30 percent of your ride fare in comparison to other apps.
Vinasun
One of the most established and reputable taxi brands, expect some form of professionalism, cleanliness, and good service although there are stories here and there of drivers charging tourists extra.
Mai Linh
Another reputable brand, the green and yellow cars are reputable and can be booked through their app as well.
Metro
Most visitors only need to use the metro for a few different stops. From Benh Thanh to An Phu, there is plenty to do and something at almost every stop. Beyond that, most of the other stops from Rach Chiec onwartds connect to residential areas next a wide, highway-type road that doesn’t offer much.
The final stop has a new bus station called BX. Mien Dong Moi, meaning “New Eastern Bus Station “ although a lot of buses have pickups downtown or shuttles from hotels so it is probably unnecessary to travel to the north of the city using the metro.
